Digit Counter

Count the digits in your text, and the numbers they make up. These are different questions: 1,234.56 is one number and six digits, and a counter that reports only one of them will give you the wrong answer. Nothing is uploaded.

A digit is a single character from 0 to 9. A number is the whole figure. The difference matters more than it sounds: 1,234.56 is one number and six digits, so a tool that reports only one of the two answers the wrong question half the time. Both are counted here.

What the Digit Counter does

Digits and numbers are different

The figure 1,234.56 is one number and six digits. Both are reported, because which one you want depends on whether you are checking a character limit or counting data points, and a tool that gives only one of them is wrong half the time.

Which digits, not just how many

Every digit from 0 to 9 is listed with its count and share, so an unusual distribution stands out. Useful for checking reference numbers, spotting padding, and for puzzles that turn on digit frequency.

The longest number found

Handy when you are checking that an account number, tracking code or identifier is the length it should be, rather than counting along it with a finger.

Digit Counter questions

How do I count the digits in my text?

Paste the text above. The digit count appears as you type, together with how many numbers those digits form and a breakdown of which digits appear how often.

What is the difference between a digit and a number?

A digit is a single character from 0 to 9. A number is the whole figure. So 1,234.56 is one number and six digits, and 2026 is one number and four digits. Both are reported here because which one you want depends entirely on what you are checking.

Are commas and decimal points counted?

Not as digits, no. A comma or a full stop inside a number is punctuation, so 1,234.56 counts six digits. The number itself is still recognised as a single number, separators included.

Can I use this to check a reference or account number?

Yes, and the longest number found is reported for exactly that reason. Paste the text and read its length rather than counting along it. Remember that letters in a mixed reference such as GB9087654321 are not digits.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything is counted in your browser by local JavaScript. Your text is never sent to our server, never written to a database and never passed to any third party or AI service. Disconnect from the internet and the tool still works.
