Contact

Questions, bug reports, corrections and feature requests are all welcome. Fill in the form below and we will reply to the address you give us, or email contact@counterwords.net directly if you prefer.

We read everything. The Count Rules panel exists because enough people wrote in asking why our number differed from Microsoft Word.

What to include, depending on why you are writing

A count looks wrong. This is the most useful message you can send us, and we take it seriously.

Please include the exact text you were counting (or a short sample that reproduces it), the number you expected, and the number we showed.

Copy and paste beats a screenshot, because we can run your exact characters through the engine. If you can say which tool you were comparing against – Word, Google Docs, a university portal – that helps us work out which rule is in play.

Something is broken. Tell us your browser and, if it matters, your device. A description of what you did and what happened is usually enough. If you saw an error, the text of it helps.

A feature request. Tell us the problem you are trying to solve rather than the feature you have in mind. We often find a simpler answer once we understand the underlying need.

The browser extension. Mention that it is the extension rather than the website, and which browser you are using. Extension and website issues usually have different causes even when they look identical.

Advertising or partnership enquiries. Please include your company, your website, and what you have in mind. We do not accept guest posts, link insertions, or paid links, so those messages will not get a reply.

Privacy, data or legal. Anything about your account data, a deletion request, or our terms goes to the same address and is handled by us directly. See our privacy policy for what we hold and your rights over it.

What to expect

We aim to reply within two to three business days. We are a small team, so complicated questions occasionally take longer – but a message about an inaccurate count always goes to the front of the queue.

If you have not heard back within a week, it is worth checking your spam folder before writing again. Replies come from counterwords.net.

One thing we cannot help with

We cannot recover text you lost. The word counter runs entirely inside your browser and your writing is never sent to us, so we have no copy of it.

If autosave was switched on, your draft may still be in your browser’s storage on the same device and in the same browser you were using.

That privacy guarantee is deliberate, but it does mean there is no backup on our side to restore from.
